4/6/2007 Pet food recalls continue with Sunshine Mills

Dog biscuits made by Sunshine Mills of Red Bay, Alabama have been added to the pet food recall list. The biscuits are believed to be contaminated with toxic wheat gluten  Over 20 dog biscuit brands sold by Wal-Mart by Sunshine Mills will be apart of the new recall list.  Sunshine Mills now expands the recall list with Menu Foods, Nestlé Purina PetCare Company, Del Monte Pet Products and Hill's Pet Nutrition.Over 12,000 contamination complaints have been maid to the FDA in the past three weeks.  This is twice as many complaints the FDA receives in a single year. The FDA is putting pressure on Menu Foods to increase the recall. Menu Foods is expected to widen the variety of product, manufacturing dates in the recall on Thursday, April 12.  As of March 16, Menu Foods has recalled over 60 million cans of wet pet food after the chemical melamine found in the wheat gluten was found. Menu Foods spokeswoman Sarah Tuite told CNN that one dog and 15 cats have died.  Many veterinarians suspected that thousands of pets have died from the Melamine found in the tainted wheat gluten. Though the FDA may say that there is plenty of food products available, we suggest you inspect your pet food for  wheat gluten on the product contents list and forgo it.    If you are or considering feeding you pets off you own table, you may not be giving them the proper nutrition needed.   Consider using a guide to making you own balance version, like 'Real Food for Dogs' or other such recipe guides.  Please check the FDA for any NEW recalls - as new ones seem to be coming out.
