290 Animals Removed From Pet Store |

HAYS, Kansas. - More than 290 animals have been removed from a Hays pet store in Kansas. No one has been seen entering or leaving the store in days.
Around a dozen of animals were were found dead when the inspectors arrived. A few animals died in transport. The owner, Diane Brown of Critter Connection consented to the removal. The inspectory said she was uncertain why the conditions had deteriorated but believes Brown had been ill or there had been an illness in the family.
The seized animals included one dog, three cats, and a number of rabbits, birds, chinchillas and ferrets. The animals were taken to the Lawrence Humane Society, where they were assessed for health conditions. The society will keep the some of the animals. Snakes and reptiles have been transferred to the Prairie Park Nature Center, an education program that places animals in schools.
