PetWalk.com interviews Froggy G's Animal Care about their business and more.
PetWalk.com: How did you get started in this business?
I was raised in Inglewood California., and grew up under the LAX flight route and next to the 405 freeway. Although we were in the heart of the city, my dad raised us like farmers. We always had so many dogs through the years, and other animals such as a potbellied pig, African Grey parrot, a goose, pheasant, chicken, rooster, ducks, turkey, cats, gerbils, lizards, fish, turtles and..... more.
I always wanted to be a veterinarian, could you imagine why? I have always been a very strong and independent girl, which has never worked out in the structured world. School was hard for me, so I
discovered alternative styles to learning as I grew up. I have had lots of hands on experience at the Mc Mullen Animal Ranch. They let me clean up, feed and play with all sorts of animals like: bears, lions,
elephants, snakes, chimps and on and on.
I took regional occupation program at the Six Flags animal park. I worked in veterinarian hospitals, and in an animal dermatology clinic at PetCo. I really had no idea where I would end up. All I knew was, is that I would be working with animals.
When I was 21, I had a close client ask me if I would be able to be a full time animal care taker. I thought it over and was scared. I moved out at the age of 15, so I had to work so hard for everything in life. The next day another client approached me with almost the same needs. That’s when I took the leap of faith.
With little funds, I printed up fliers, and bought an 88’ hatchback so I could fold the seats down and cart around my new fuzzy clients.
Eight years later, my business is booming and I am loving every minute of it!
PetWalk.com: What service do you have?
I specialize in hard to handle dogs, Cesar Milan is one of my mentors (I was in one of his videos). Although I had my own style that is similar to his well before he ever boomed.
I am an animal’s nanny. I do it all. I pretty much know the basics for all pets. I have one employee with 20 years experience on top of my lifetime of knowledge. We walk, bathe, taxi, take them to their veterinarian visits, feed them, give prescriptions when needed, and what ever else is required for a happy animal. We have even renovated homes, taken a dog to Japan, and bathed the Osborne’s dogs! Pretty crazy! I can’t even grasp it some times!
I started this to fill the needs of pet the pet owners! I will do whatever it takes.
PetWalk.com: Do you have any future business plans, or goals?
I have made great strides, but I still have big aspirations ahead. I have plans and dreams for the future, though it is hard without financial backing. I dropped everything, with no business plan, no idea or education as to how to run a business, but God willing it will continue. I really would love to have private facility, to accommodate the clients much better.
PetWalk.com: Do you have any pet? If so, tell us about them?
I personally have 2 dogs named the Mighty Quinn and Sweet Pee ( yes pee not pea, you can guess why!) I have a cat dubbed 2 Social as he is the second Social through the years. I also have three fish tanks, a fat tailed gecko named Starvin Marvin and whatever other little animals the neighborhood brings me.
I also donate my time and a percent of my earnings to the neighborhood kids, which have next to nothing. They come to work throughout the year and earn money. Two girls earned a room renovation, three of them went on a trip to Northern California for their first camping trip at 15 and 16 years old! It makes me so proud to give back to the community.
