I KNOW WHAT YOU MEAN ABOUT HEALTH CARE COST HERE, AND IN EUROPE.IM FROM GERMANY.
I REMEMBER, WHEN I HAD TO HAVE A CROWN IN GERMANY, IT COST MY PARENTS 0.00 DM, HERE, EVEN WITH INSURANCE THEY STILL WANT 500.00 PER CROWN.IT IS THE SAME FOR OUR PETS.OUTRAGES PRICES, FOR OUR 4 LEGGED BABIES HEALTH CARE.
Banfield is CORPORATE owned and as a big business is interested in money. The wellness plans are a ripoff. They seriously overvaccinate pets therefore destroying the pets immune system. Then the pets come down with horrible ear infections, skin rashes, hot spots and such and Banfield makes even more money repairing the damage. Get educated people, dogs and cats don't need but a few vaccines in their life, not every year! The AVMA states every 3 yrs is more than enough. And they don't recommend giardia or lyme or bordetella nor do they recommend vaccinating indoor cats for leukemia they have no way of contracting. Educate yourself before you walk blindly into one of these places that wants to "sell" you all this at the expense of the health of your pet. Read up on it! All those vaccines that are crammed into your puppies cost .90 That's 90 cents each. The charge is $20+ on many of them making the markup astronomical. YOU are paying for that when you sign up for this "wellness program". Each wellness program Banfield sells the csc, nurse and doc gets a kickback from so of course there is pressure from them trying to make you feel like a bad pet owner if you don't. That's big business talking. Do you want that for your pet?

I am a former employee Of Banfield as well. I can only speak for the one I worked at, and the ones in the surrounding area, because these are the only ones I have delt with. I have to say that I am shocked and disappointed in the way that things are ran at Banfield. The DR there is very unprofessional, rude and cruel in my opinion to the pets that come in. All she cares about is numbers and how many Wellness Plans we would sell. After a while it became so bad that if someone did not sign up on a plan she would talk bad about them and how bad of a "pet parent" they are.
When I gave my notice to leave the job, I was treated terribly. I contacted the corporate office and of course they were no help. So if you ever have a problem don't expect them to help you out. In my experience some of the DRs can get away with whatever they want because "they own the practice" and its a shame.
I was brainwashed into the idea of the Wellness Plans, now being out in the real world and visiting another veterinarian, I see how much of a joke and a rip off they are and Im ashamed to say that I worked there. I would not recommend Banfield, but again Im sure there are some decent ones out there. At least I would hope so.

I have found all of the posts on here helpful, so maybe someone will find mine helpful too. I have two dogs that have been on the wellness plans (14 yr old lab for 6 years and 4 year old german shepherd for 4). We started out in Columbia, SC then moved to Colorado Springs, CO, then to San Antonio, TX and now we are in Bowie, MD (military family).

I call the Wellness Plan a sort of doggie HMO even though no one wants to call it insurance. You don't get to pick your doctor and they don't pay for anything not covered in the plan--read the fine print.

We had good experiences at all of the Banfields except for the one in Bowie, MD. (Note: I highly recommend the vets at the Colorado Springs (Academy Blvd) location and the San Antonio location (The Forum)if anyone happens to live there. Our dogs have had all kinds of health problems (one was shot by the cops responding to our home security system alarm and the other one was a rescue dog with 5 different parasites and in need of a blood transfusion). The plans have saved us thousands of dollars even though they didn't cover everything.
Having said that....I've decided to leave Banfield because I found out from another vet who used to work for Banfield that their vaccination policy is extreme and dangerous. Recently, my older dog had trouble (she could barely walk) after her last round of vaccines which was due to the over-vaccination done at the Banfield in Bowie, MD. We had only asked for the rabies shot, but they gave her a bunch of other things at the same time without our consent. When I contacted Banfield about the dog's reaction, I was told "you have to make an appointment." The next available appointment was over a week away. Luckily, my dog perked up after a couple of days with the help of some baby aspirin. My point is that this local Banfield's hours and lack of appts makes the plan useless to me not to mention the vaccine policy and the unauthorized treatment. What's the point in getting free office visits if you can't ever be seen?

Bottom line: Each Banfield depends largely on the vet employed, but Banfield's corporate policies are also disturbing.
